In April,2023 on the behest of the Cooperative Department, Govt. of Assam, Handique Girls’ College Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. is set up with teachers & students members in the college to create an entrepreneurial and skill environment among the stakeholders. After the formation of the society and as per the By-law of the society and guidance of the visionary higher officials of the Cooperative Department, the cooperative society is undertaking business activity of selling college uniforms of our college as the first initiative since its inception from 2023. The whole process of uniform making and selling is looked after by alumni and student members of the society.
From the year 2024 the society has expanded its activities and started selling Lab coats, Track pants, Gamusa, Cardiagan and other stationery items like Pen, pencil, note books , copies etc. and mementoes & traditional gift items of North-East. The society also provides computer printing facilities at a very nominal rate to the students. The cooperative society also taken initiative in exposing the students for skill based activities like jewellery making , handi-crafts and pearl culture activities.
The society is run by Board of directors and a body of general members. The membership to the society is open to all teachers and students throughout the year and presently society has around 100 members including teachers and students.
The co-operative society also function like an incubation centre for inculcating the entrepreneurial mindset as well as job creating attitude through its functioning and different activities among the students of Handique Girls’ College.
