Department of Economics, HGC organized a field visit to Mayong for the HS 1st year students on the 11th December 2024. A visit to the museum was also arranged where they learnt about the faith healers and the history of the famous Mayong magic.

Jyoti Narayan Nath, an eminent actor and also an expert thespian is known for his work Rainbow Fields(2018), NilamotirBiya(2008) and Burbokor Khel- Game of Fools(2022). He visited the Department of English on 16th of February 2024 to deliver a talk on the nuances of drama. Nath began his conversation with an intricate discussion on the fundamentals of drama. Later he focused on theatre and the human body, voice, body movements, basics of performance, and, script writing.

The Philosophical Study Circle, Department of Philosophy, Handique Girls´ College has organized a Student´s Seminar & Peer Learning Session to celebrate the World Philosophy Day, 2024. Students from the 5th semester have presented their papers on themes related to their Course like Existentialism & Phenomenology, Concept of Yogas in Bhagavad Gita, Analytic Philosophy etc. The program ended with peer discussion and learning among the students of 5th, 3rd and 1st semester.

One Day Workshop on Entrepreneurship and Innovation as a Career Opportunity .Institution´s Innovation Council in collaboration with IQAC, Handique Girls´ College organized a one day workshop on Entrepreneurship and Innovation as Career Opportunity for the students. The workshop started with an inaugural speech by Dr. Ranjit Sarma, Principal, Handique Girls´ College. Dr. Hirak Ranjan Das was the resource person for the first session of the workshop. Dr. Das is presently working as Indovation Manager, AICTE Innovation Centre, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. He gave an insightful talk on the difference between start-ups, businesses and entrepreneurship and discussed the regulatory considerations for startups among other things. Moreover, he also highlighted the problems and challenges of entrepreneurship and different types of businesses.Ms. Piyali Chakraborty was the speaker for the second session. She is currently working as an Indovation fellow under Innovation cell, AICTE, Ministry of Education. She focused on different types of innovations and talked about various initiatives taken by the Government of India alongwith the success stories of start-ups.Students from 3rd and 5th semester pitched their innovative ideas after both the sessions. The programme concluded successfully with encouraging feedback from the students.

Department of Education, HGC had an Excursion with its UG 5th Sem Hons. Students on 11th September 2024. The students visited the Sacred Forest Mwphlwng, Meghalaya where they got an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the tradition of nature worship. Dr. Sangeeta Das., Swapna Lahon and Jintu Thakuria, faculties of the department accompanied the students.

On 12th Nov, 2024, the FYUGP 3rd semester students of Economics (Hons) had their paper presentations on various topics of Economics. A total of around 120 students participated in the program. The students were greatly benefitted as it enhanced their communication skills, enabled them a deeper grasp of the topic, boosting their self-confidence and prepared them for public speaking.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT by B.Sc 5th and 3rd semester Microbiology students, HGC to K.K.Prime water on 29/10/24.The purpose of the industrial visit was to give the students a unique practical demonstration regarding the quality control, Microbiological and Chemical testing done with the BIS and FSSAI standard guidelines, purification and packaging of water at an industrial level. The visit was accommodated by the faculty members of the department.

Three teams from Handique Girls´ College (HGC) participated in the Inter-institutional student seminar organized by Department of English, B. Barooah College on 26th Oct 2024. The students demonstrated their insights and perspectives. One of the teams, consisting of Avipsa Sharma and Nazmeen Islam, 5th semester, English Honours, emerged victorious by securing the third prize among the participating colleges.

Field visit of 5th semester students of Computer Science Department, HGC on 26th October 2024. The visit was followed by the following activities —
Activity 1: Seminar on the topic “Job Prospects in Gaming“by young entrepreneur and Roblox Game Developer NEIL SHANKAR NATH.
Activity 2: Industrial field visit to Assamica Agro Pvt Ltd. The Purpose of the field visit was to explore, observe professional practices of manufacturing processes of commercial Organic Tea products.

Department of Political Science, HGC organised a lecture on the topic "US ELECTION 2024" on 26th October 2024. Prof. Mukesh Bagoria of Department of Political science, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, University of Delhi was the resource person for the event. Major students of all the three semesters actively participated in the lecture and were immensely benefitted.

Resource persons from Piramal Foundation interacted with the students of 5th Semester motivating them towards availing Community Development and Leadership fellowships like the Gandhi Fellowship on 25th Oct. 2024. The program was coordinated by Dr. Bidita Das, Department of Psychology.

Dr Tarali Pathak, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Education, Cotton University was invited to the Dept. of Education, HGC to deliver academic lecture on 22nd October, 2024 as a part of Faculty Exchange Programme under MoU signed between the two departments. Dr. Pathak conducted a class on Achievement Test for the paper Measurement and Evaluation for the CBCS 5th Semester Hons. Course.

On 27th September 2024, to celebrate World Tourism Day, a talk on the topic Maidams of Charaideo: An Example of Tai Ahom Ethno Cultural-Heritage was organized by the Department of History, highlighting the importance preserving cultural heritage. The talk was delivered by Dr. Sangeeta Gogoi, Director (i/c) DHAS.

The Department of Economics organized an industry visit for 3rd semester students on 21.9.2024 to see the production units of the popular brand ´Annapurna´ at Mirza. It was a learning experience for the students to know about the processes involved in this. The two units were Satez Agro Products Pvt Ltd and Harvest land Pvt Ltd.

Department of Botany organized a career guidance session on 19.09.2024. Mr. Uddipta Borthakur, Guest Faculty, Department of Botany, HGC acted as the resource person for the session. He delivered a talk on "Future Prospects in Biological Science and Preparation for Different Competitive Examination".

The Department of Education, HGC, celebrated National Education Day on 11th Nov 2024. The event included the following activities —

  1. A PPT presentation on Quality Education by group of a three students of the department.
  2. Screening of the documentary Lakshahira Das, a documentary on life and works of eminent educationist, lyricist Dr. Lakhahira Das.
  3. An interaction session with the former faculty members of the department
  4. Certificate Distribution of the Montessori Teacher Training Certificate Course2023-24
  5. Certificate Distribution of the Essay Competition on Social Media and Mental Health held on the occasion of World Mental Health Day.

Department of Political Science organised its Sixth Annual Lecture on 13th November 2024. Noted writer, columnist and public speaker Shri Mayur Bora delivered this year´s lecture on a pertinent topic "The Assamese: In Longing for Luminosity". Along with this the sixth edition of Elenchus, the departmental periodical was also released. The event was graced with the presence of many distinguished persons, former and present faculty members and students.

The Department of History organized a two-day seminar for the 5th-semester students on 18th and 19th September, 2024. The seminar aimed at enriching the academic knowledge of the students by exposing them to recent research trends and historical perspectives. It was a highly engaging and insightful event, fostering both academic growth and interaction among participants.

Department of Community Science organized an interactive session on "Career prospects after studying Community Science" on 18/9/2024. Mr. Bikash Pegu, Lecturer, District Institute of Education and Training ,Jorhat was present as the resource person of the session.

A Group Discussion activity was organized by the Department of History on 18th September, 2024. The activity proved to be a valuable learning experience for the students as they discussed on different topics of their honours paper - History of India VII. By actively participating in discussions within their respective groups, students not only enhanced their understanding of the assigned topics but also cultivated their communication and critical thinking skills.

An Awareness Campaign on Career Prospects in the Reserve Bank of India was organized by the Department of Economics on 18.9.2024. A team of officials came to attend the program and updated the 5th semester students on the various stages in the recruitment process of RBI. This was followed by an interesting quiz in which all participated enthusiastically. The team presented the winners with gifts along with refreshments.

Department of English, Handique Girls´ College organizes "Impact Screening of a docu-series titled" Conversations Matter" on 27th August 2024.Conversations Matter is a documentary series which focusses on changing the narrative about masculinity and male stereotypes, thereby also empowering women and encouraging gender sensitivity. Nelson Deb, who interacted with the students after the film screening, founded The Eco Hub in 2012, a pioneering social enterprise in the Northeast Region of India and is engaged in the task of fighting against violence on women. The students were immensely benefitted by the session and opened up about many episodes which they encountered in their day to day life during the interaction.

Geetali Borah, noted Author, Associate Editor of the literary journal Prakash was present at the ´Meet the Author´ program organized bTalk on Intellectual Property And Entrepreneurship.Institution´s Innovation Council, under the aegis of IQAC, Handique Girls´ College organised a talk on IP and Entrepreneurship for the students on the occasion of World Entrepreneurship Day on 21st August 2024. IP Professional and Expert Mr. Siddhartha Devnath was the guest speaker for the event. He delivered an insightful talk on different intellectual properties and intellectual property rights. Moreover, he also highlighted on how to register for intellectual property rights and how to develop entrepreneurship. He also shared some of the success stories of women entrepreneurs of Assam. The talk was followed by a discussion in which students participated enthusiastically.

Research and Development Cell of HGC organized presentations of research proposals on 28/05/24 which was attended by Prof Bibhash Choudhury (GU), Prof Biplob Mandal (IITG), Prof Prabodh Borah (AAU, Ghy) and Prof Arup Jyoti Saikia (IITG), members of the Research Advisory Committee.

The Department of History in association with IQAC organised an interactive session on 13/05/2024. Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharya, Chief Advisor of All Assam Students´ Association was invited as the chief guest of the program. Dr. Bhattacharya deliberated on the history of the Assam Movement, a topic required for the 6th semester History honours paper HIS-HE-6026 and 4th semester paper HIS-SE-4016. The students actively participated in the interaction following his speech.

Department of Education, HGC organized a student seminar on 30th March 2024 on the theme Educational Psychology for the students of UG 2ND Semester. The students jointly presented their papers in six groups on different topics of educational psychology including Gifted Children, Educational Provisions for Special Children, Personality Types, Importance of Memory. All the faculty members of the department reviewed the presentations and gave the necessary suggestions to the students.

Inter-college Students Seminar organised by the IQAC in collaboration with the Economics Department on 3rd May 2024, where students from eight institutions including Cotton University, B. Borooah College, Pandu college, LCB college participated. Resource persons of the seminar were Dr.Archana Sharma and Rajib Das sir. Cash prizes for best presentation were awarded to B.Borooah College, Handique Girls´ College and Arya V. College respectively. The prizes were Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1500 respectively.Topics for presentation were linked to Economics and Current Issue. A research project report by 6th semester Hons students of Economics Department was released at the event. The project was on Problems and Prospects of the ornament making industry in Ranthali, Assam.

Geetali Borah, noted Author, Associate Editor of the literary journal Prakash was present at the ´Meet the Author´ program organized by Srijan Literary Club under IQAC, HGC in collaboration with the Department of Assamese of the college on 18th March 2024. Borah enlightened the students giving her insights on ´Crafting Short Stories and Creative Literature´. While interacting with the students, she shared her journey of twenty years of experience of being in the field of Assamese literature, editing and journalism
