NCC

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has been an integral part of Handique Girls´ College since its inception on May 29, 1963. Under the visionary leadership of Senehi Begum, the establishment of the NCC unit aimed to instill discipline, leadership skills, and a sense of responsibility among the students. The primary objectives of introducing NCC at Handique Girls´ College were to i) Promote a spirit of adventure and camaraderie among students ii) Encourage physical fitness and teamwork. Iii) Develop leadership qualities and a sense of national pride.

Historical Significance

Senehi Begum, a prominent figure in the college´s history, recognized the importance of empowering young women through military training and discipline. This initiative marked a significant step towards fostering an environment where women could engage in activities that were traditionally male-dominated.

Career Progression:

Senehi Begum, began her military career with a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant in 1966. Over the next five years, she demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment, and dedication, which earned her a promotion to Captain in 1971. Her stellar performance continued, and she was promoted to the rank of Major in 1978. She also served as Commanding Officer of 60 Assam Girls Battalion in 1966 and also in the year 1972.

Throughout her career, she was an active participant in various national and regional-level camps, further showcasing her dedication to service and her role as a leader in military exercises and training programs. These camps were vital in sharpening her skills and contributing to the overall effectiveness of her unit.

Retirement:

After serving for three decades, she retired in 1996. Her career was marked by commitment to duty, consistent professional growth, and a strong record of service.

Achievements of the Unit

Since its establishment, the NCC unit has achieved numerous milestones, contributing to the overall development of its cadets. The unit has participated in various national and regional events, gaining recognition for excellence in disciplines such as drill, shooting, and cultural performances. The establishment of the NCC at Handique Girls´ College under Senehi Begum´s initiative laid the foundation for nurturing empowered and responsible young women. Today, the unit continues to thrive, offering students valuable experiences and skills that extend beyond their academic pursuits.

Enrollment Process:

The enrollment process for cadets into the National Cadet Corps (NCC) at Handique Girls´ College is structured to ensure a systematic and efficient selection of candidates. This process includes both offline and online modes, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of prospective cadets.

Enrollment Steps

Entrance Examination:

All prospective cadets are required to sit for the NCC entrance exam. The exam assesses various skills and knowledge relevant to the NCC, ensuring that candidates meet the basic eligibility criteria.

Physical Examination:

Following the successful completion of the entrance exam, Physical Instructor (PI) staff is called from the Unit to conduct physical examinations. The physical examination evaluates candidates´ fitness levels and suitability for NCC activities.

Offline Enrollment Completion:

Once the physical examinations are concluded, the offline enrollment process is finalized. This stage includes gathering necessary documentation and confirming eligibility.

Online Enrollment Process:

After completing the offline process, the Associate NCC Officer (ANO) initiates the online enrollment for each cadet using their Unique ID. This online system streamlines the registration process, making it easier to manage cadet information and maintain records.

The enrollment process for NCC at Handique Girls´ College is designed to be thorough and efficient, ensuring that only qualified candidates become part of the NCC. By integrating both offline and online methods, the process facilitates a smoother transition for new cadets while maintaining high standards of selection.
