PROFILE

The Department of Statistics was established in 26th December 1983, and the teaching of B.Sc. Major in Statistics had been introduced in 2011. Dr.(Mrs.) Kunja Deka was the founder HOD of this Department.

The main objectives of introducing this subject are- to make the students familiar with statistics, to produce man power and to make them Computer literate by way of introducing the latest state-of-the-art technique in the programming language and computer software to enable them to perform statistical data analysis and for this the Department has a computer lab equipped with the basic computer facilities. There is a collection of books in departmental library from where students can borrow the books.

The department regularly conducts field studies for students for completing their project papers. The presently working faculty members are Dr. Anupam Deka (HOD), Dr. Soma Dhar and Ms. Namrata Pareek. They are actively engaged in academic as well as other administrative activities in the College. Most of the passed out students are doing higher studies like M.Sc, MBA and PhD etc with good results.

Recently, the department has signed MOU with Department of Statistics, AV College, Guwahati.

OBJECTIVE

1. To make the students familiar with Statistics, which is a branch of science that has applications in almost every branch of science as well as in any branch, that deals with scientific philosophy and which is also useful in the day- to- day practical life.

2. To produce manpower, skilled in Statistics, for the society.

3. To make each student in the Department of Statistics computer literate.

MISION

1. To make Statistics popular among the students, among the researchers and among the people.

2. To provide necessary conceptual requirement in scientific research and in the pu-gradation of scientific knowledge.

3. To serve the society an the nation by producing the necessary manpower skilled in statistics.
