PROFILE

The DEPARTMENT OF PHIOSOPHYis one of the oldest departments in Handique Girls" College, the premier girls" institution in Guwahati, in north-east region of India. The college was founded in the year 1939 on 16th July. The Department of Philosophy also came into existence on the foundation day of the institution. The Department has completed seventy years of its honoured existence.

The academic programmes of the Department are intended to provide students a strong foundation in the discipline of philosophy by encouraging engagements with substantive questions and contemporary concerns. Along with the study of foremost themes of Philosophy, the curricula of the department have been designed to explore newer enterprises in philosophy. The courses of study also focus on training students to read original texts and apply their knowledge to problem-solving scenarios.

  • Bachelor of Arts (Major and General)
  • CBCS Honours and Regular BA Courses since 2019 onwards.

The department has a desktop computer and a projector.

  • Annual Certificate Course on Yoga and Meditation for students.
  • The department organizes various activities for the students. Some regular activities of the Department are talk and lectures by invited academician, Interdisciplinary lectures under Philosophical Study Circle, Alumni talk, Quiz Competition, Wall Magazines by the Students etc
  • Five (5) Research Scholars had been awarded PhD Degree by Gauhati University under the guideship of Dr. Jutika Das.
