Hindi department is one of the oldest department of Handique Girls College. The department was established in 1960 as per resolution of Governing body. Mr. Ramen Sharma was the founder HOD of the department. In initial stage Department was associated with centrally, but now has got special separate department of Hindi adequate facilities.
The reason"s of establishment of Hindi department areto develop the position of National language in Assamese community among female section of North-East region,to encourage the students to develop the skills in the field of language technology, to generate man power at different levels of the country to enable to face the challenges of the modern competitive era.
Department current enrolment is almost 130 including H.S 1st and 2nd year, FYUGP 1stsem Major, Minor and all other Honours and pass courses. Presently 2 permanent faculties Dr. Rajashree Devi(HOD) and Dr. Minakshi Devi and one part time faculty Miss Richa Chomuah are teaching in the department. Mr. Pritam Das is also working as a bearer in the department.
Department use to organize Hindi Divas on 14th September every year.Field trips, lectures,creative writing,competitions of essay writing, poem recitation etc, book revision by departmental book club ‘Anweshan", departmental quality discussion etc. held in the Department regularly for the betterment of the student"s. Students are doing well in the fields of music, sports, singing etc. also.
There is a departmental library with about 221 books and which are handled by the teachers as well as the students.
