PROFILE

The Department of Bengali was as old as Handique Girls´ College itself. It was established in the year 1939. The founder teacher was Mr. Nalini Bhusan Das Gupta. The department has the long and glorious past with lots of dedicated teachers and sincere students. Presently, the Department has three teachers comprising two against sanctioned post and one as contractual lecturer. The students become graduate every year with good results in Semester Examination. Some of the students get top rank. The alumni are the assets of the department. Many of them are well established in different professional fields. Some are working as faculty members in various colleges of Guwahati. The Department has a library named ´Naibedya´ with 379 books. The departmental wall magazine ´Prabaha´ is being created every year by the students of the department. Rabindrajayanti is being celebrated every year by the teachers and students of the department on the birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. Netajijayanti is also observed to pay tribute to Subhas Chandra Bose. Besides these, various talks are organized to meet the needs of the students. Educational tour is held every year for the students to enable them to acquire knowledge from outer world. The faculty members always provide guidance and encouragement to the students for their over-all development.

LIBRARY

The Departmental Library has a small collection of books (around 380) and few journals for the benefit of students and teachers.

 

OTHER ACTIVITIES

 

  • "PRABAHA" a wall-magazine is made by the students every year.
  • "RABINDRAJAYANTI" is celebrated by the teachers and students of the department every year to pay tribute to Kabiguru.
